Brewster hosted the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox for the second time this week. When they played on Sunday, Brewster's offense was too much for the Red Sox to handle. The Whitecaps bats were again in force on Thursday, but YD's offense showed up too, getting a 10-8 road victory over Brewster.
The game didn't start as a slugfest though. The starting pitchers dueled sharply for the first half of the game. Brewster's Hunter Martin (Tennessee) and YD's William Montgomerie (UConn) provided strong outings and gave their teams a chance to win. Martin only gave up one run, a groundout RBI by Corey Dempster (USC) in the fourth. The rest of his 6.1 innings were an excellent display of his pitching talent. Montgomerie pitched well for YD as well, but had trouble getting Matt Davis (VCU) out. Davis gave Brewster a 2-1 lead in the 5th with his 3rd homer of the summer. Brewster added two more runs in the 7th inning on a single by Logan Warmoth (North Carolina) and a double by Ryan Noda (Cincinnati). They took a 4-1 lead to the 8th, where the bullpen fell apart. Jacob Wloczewski (Binghamton) and Vince Arobio (Pacific) combined to allow 7 hits and 8 runs, including a home run by Kevin Smith (Maryland), and YD took a 9-4 lead. Brewster responded with another homer by Matt Davis to cut YD's lead to 9-7. YD and Brewster each got a run in the 9th inning, and Brewster could not mount a big enough attack to tie the game. YD escaped with a 10-8 victory. With the loss, Brewster falls to 2-4 on the season and 2-2 at home. Jacob Wloczewski got the loss, and Collin Snyder (Vanderbilt) got his first victory. YD gets their first victory of the season, going to 1-5 on the season. The Whitecaps will take to the road to play Chatham tomorrow night at Veterans Field. First pitch is at 7. Comments are closed.
