June 19, 2016 Tyler Zuber fired six innings of two-run ball and struck out seven, as the Whitecaps defeated the Bourne Braves 7-2 on Sunday night in Bourne. They have now won 3 straight and improve to 5-4 on the year. The Whitecaps struck early as they loaded the bases in the first and Matt Davis recorded an RBI walk to open the scoring. Zach Gahagan also ripped an RBI single into left to add another run to make it a 2-0 game. Zuber posted three scoreless frames in the first, second and third, setting a season high in strikeouts. Bourne cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth as Willy Yahn ripped an RBI single up the middle. The Caps extended the lead in the sixth as Davis tripled to lead off the inning, and Gahagan ripped an RBI single to left and then Kekai Rios drilled a single to center to make it 4-1. Gahagan made a spectacular play at first in the bottom of the sixth, elevating to take away extra bases and double off the runner to end the inning. The Caps added three runs in the top of the eight to jump out to a 7-2 lead. Gridley tripled to deep right field, and Warmoth placed a perfect sac-bunt up the first base line to score Gridley and make it 7-2. Erik Martinez tossed a 1-2-3 scoreless ninth inning to secure the 7-2 victory for the Caps and the win for Zuber. The Brewster bullpen was lights out once again, allowing zero runs and only one hit over three scoreless innings of relief. The Caps return to action tomorrow, as they hit the road and face the Falmouth Commodores at 6 p.m. Comments are closed.
