Yarmouth-
The Whitecaps arrived at Red Wilson Field riding a 4 game losing streak. They looked to end their pain on Tuesday night in Yarmouth. Instead, they suffered their most disappointing loss of the season and fell farther behind in the standings. The game did start well. They scored three runs in the first inning, as they did on Monday against Harwich. Logan Warmoth (UNC) singled and drove in Bryce Jordan (LSU). Warmoth then scored on a wild pitch and Matt Davis (VCU) drove in Brent Rooker (Mississippi St.) to make it 3-0. Like Harwich before them, though, the Yarmoth Dennis Red Sox quickly struck back and took a sizable lead. The Sox got one run in the 2nd with a Matthew Whatley (Oral Roberts) RBI single. They then exploded for 5 runs in the third and ran Brewster starter Tyler Zuber (Arkansas State) from the game. YD took a 6-3 lead after 3. Brewster chipped away at that lead over the middle innings. The Whitecaps got single runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings. Zach Gahagan (UNC) and Colby Fitch (Louisville) got solo home runs to lead off the 5th and 6th inning respectively. Gahagan walked to open the 7th inning, and scored with 2 outs when his college roommate, Logan Warmoth, singled him home. After tying the game late, Brewster gave their fans one more unfortunate flashback to Monday night's game against Harwich. With Zac Lowther (Xavier) on the hill and striking out his first 5 opponents, Tyler Houston (Butler) singled with 2 outs. Then Nolan Brown (TCU) hit the ball to right field, where Jon Littell (Oklahoma St.) slipped and let the ball get behind him. Brown got to third for a triple, and Houston scored to give YD the lead. Will Toffey (Vanderbilt) then dropped a bunt to third base, and drove in Brown on an RBI single to put YD ahead 8-6. Brewster put some baserunners on in the 9th, but failed to score, losing in similar fashion to Independence Day against Harwich. Zac Lowther was the tough luck losing pitcher, notching his first loss of the summer. Brewster lost their fifth game in a row and fell to 9-13 on the season. Brewster will try and end their losing streak tomorrow afternoon with a matchup with Falmouth. The last time these teams faced off, Brewster blew Falmouth out on the road 13-6 on July 20th.
