BREWSTER, Mass-
Hunter Martin fired six innings of one-run baseball to earn the win as the Brewster Whitecaps defeated the Chatham Anglers, 2-1 on Friday night at Stony Brook Field. The Whitecaps improve to 10-14 with the win over Chatham. Martin struggled with his control in the early part of the game, as he walked five Anglers in the first three innings. However, Martin settled down, allowing four hits throughout the contest while striking out three. The Anglers opened the scoring in the top of the third inning as Tanner Gardner recorded a sac-fly to center field to score Jake Palomaki and give the Anglers the 1-0 lead. The Whitecaps struck back quickly in the bottom of the third. With one out and Whitecaps on first and second, Ryan Gridley slapped a groundball to Chatham third baseman Sean Bouchard. Bouchard hoped to turn an inning ending double play, yet his throw pulled Chatham first baseman Jeremy Vasquez off the bag as Gridley reached on the error. Bryce Jordan and Nick Dunn then recorded back-to-back RBI singles to give Brewster the 2-1 lead. The Whitecaps bullpen would be called upon to secure the victory, and they went to arguably one of their best relievers as Zac Lowther fired 2.1 perfect innings for Brewster to retire the final seven batters of the game, four coming via strikeouts. Lowther struck out two in the top of the ninth to secure the win for Brewster. They snapped a six-game losing streak with the victory. The Whitecaps travel to Cotuit to face the Ketteleers at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Comments are closed.
