By Maxwell Paul McLaughlin ORLEANS, M.A. - The Whitecaps decided to move from one miserable night to the next. After one inning of play, the Whitecaps held a 3-0 lead off a Zach Neto (Campbell) home run. This lead would not last long. The Firebirds would go on to hit seven home runs and beat the Whitecaps 19-6. The reliable pitching and defense for the Whitecaps finally cracked, allowing 18 hits, two errors, and seven home runs. The offense has continued to struggle for the Whitecaps despite having six runs, the Whitecaps only had four hits. The four hits were from two people. “At some point, you can't keep rolling out the same thing and expect different results,” manager Jamie Shevchik said. “Our offense is still not where it needs to be.” However, there is something to be excited about in the next few days. The Whitecaps will be getting the long-awaited players from Texas, Vanderbilt, and Arizona. All of which played in the College World Series in Omaha. “Hopefully they will bring a lot of energy and that experience from playing postseason baseball,” pitching coach Scott Landers said. “I'm hoping the players coming in will rub off some sort of winning culture,” Shevchik said.“ If you think about it, these guys are all coming from Omaha so they know how to win.” The only two bright spots for the Whitecaps tonight were Colin Davis (Wofford) who had two hits including a home run. The other is Zach Neto (Campbell). Neto also had two hits including a home run. The Whitecaps now (4-4-2) will be at Harwich tonight to take on the Mariners at 5:30 p.m. Comments are closed.
