Brewster-
After a hard loss at Red Wilson Field on Tuesday night, the Whitecaps returned home to face the Falmouth Commodores. They last played Falmouth on June 20th and won 11-6. They hoped to get another game like their Falmouth trip to end their 5 game losing streak. Instead, they got beat badly on their home field and fell to the Commodores 13-8. The game did start well for the Caps. As they have for the last six games in a row, Brewster scored in the first inning. Zach Gahagan (UNC) singled in two runs in the 1st to put Brewster up 2-0. They had more runners on, and as they have for their losing streak, they failed to score more runs. Falmouth made them pay for not scoring more, by getting two runs in the 2nd to tie the game, then exploding for 6 runs in the 3rd. The inning was highlighted by Matt McLaughlin's (Kansas) grand slam and chased Brewster starter Ryan Feltner (Ohio State) from the game. Brewster did chip away at the score, getting two runs off a Logan Warmoth (UNC) solo homer and a Gahagan sacrifice fly. The four run deficit was as close as Brewster got for the rest of the night, though. Falmouth peppered Brewster pitching for three runs in the 5th, highlighted by Michael Gigliotti (Lipscomb) doubling in two runs, and two final runs in the 6th. Matt Duce (Dallas Baptist) tripled to open the inning and scored on a single by Gigliotti, and Falmouth had all the runs they needed. Brewster did make the game closer at the end. Three runs scored in the bottom of the 7th, highlighted by Beau Jordan (LSU) doubling in Gahagan. Landon Hughes also pitched a perfect 8th inning, but by that point, Brewster ran out of answers. The game was called after the 8th inning due to darkness, and Brewster fell for the 6th straight game. With the loss, Brewster falls even further into last place in the Eastern Division. They will travel to Boston, MA, to work out at Fenway Park tomorrow, and then they return to action at home against Chatham on Friday. Comments are closed.
