BREWSTER, Mass. Whitecaps defeat YD For First Victory
June 12, 2016 Aaron Soto (Tennessee) fired 6.1 innings of three-run ball for the Whitecaps and the offense exploded behind him to propel the Whitecaps to an 11-6 win over the YD-Red Sox. The Whitecaps move to 1-1 on the year with the victory. The Whitecaps jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Matt Davis led off the inning with a stand-up double to the gap in right center field. Logan Warmoth (UNC) ripped an RBI single into right field to bring the run around. The Caps added to their lead in the bottom of the second as they exploded for five rums off opposing pitcher Michael Baumann. Colby Maiola and Brett Langhorne worked walks to open the inning, and then Kekai Rios ripped a grounder up the middle to score Maiola and make it a 2-0 lead. After another walk, Nick Dunn sent an RBI single into left to score Langhorne and tack on another run. The Caps would score another three runs in the inning to jump out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. The Whitecaps added runs in the third, fourth and fifth in order to jump out to an 11-0 lead. Dunn added an RBI single in the 3rd, Maiola ripped an RBI single to right to score Noda in the fourth and Ryan Noda ripped a two run home-run over the right field fence to give the Caps the 11-0 lead. YD was not ready to quit after five, as Deon Stafford ripped a three-run homer to right to put YD on the board and cut the Caps lead to 11-3. Nolan Brown ripped an RBI single to right adding another run for YD and making the score 11-4. The Red Sox showed signs of life in the seventh as well, adding two more runs in the seventh and cutting the lead to 11-6. Hansen Butler (UNC) tossed a scoreless eight for the Caps and Vince Arobio fired a scoreless ninth to secure the victory for the Whitecaps. The Whitecaps return to action tomorrow, June 13 as they face the Chatham Anglers at 5 p.m. at Stony Brook Field. Comments are closed.
