BREWSTER, Mass- Whitecaps Fall To Bourne, 2-1
Konnor Pilkington fired seven innings of two-run ball as the Brewster Whitecaps fell to the Bourne Braves 2-1 on Saturday night at Stony Brook Field. The Whitecaps opened the scoring in the home half of the first inning as Logan Warmoth singled to center field and Colby Fitch smashed an RBI double down the right field line to plate Warmoth and give the Caps a 1-0 lead. Bourne would tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third as Jake Mangum singled to right, Connor Wong worked a walk and David MacKinnon slapped an RBI single to equalize the score. The Caps threatened in the bottom of the fifth as Matt Davis and Nick Dunn tallied back-to-back two-out singles, yet they were unable to capitalize, as the score remained 1-1. Bourne added a run in the top half of the seventh as Mangum drove in Reyes with an RBI infield single to make it 2-1 Bourne. The run would prove to be the winner for the Braves as the Whitecaps failed to plate another run. Brewster put two men on base in the seventh, yet Dunn grounded out with men at the corners to end the frame as the Caps came away scoreless. Once again, Brewster’s inability to push runs across the board proved to be critical, as the Whitecaps stranded seven runners during the contest. The Caps fall to 9-10 with the loss, and it is the first time Brewster has been below .500 since June 17 when they were 3-4. Pilkington took the tough-luck loss as he allowed two runs and struck out four over seven strong innings while Doug Norman earned the win in relief for Bourne. The Whitecaps return to action tomorrow, as they travel to Harwich to face the Mariners at 5:30 p.m. Comments are closed.
