BREWSTER, M.A. - Coming off one of their biggest wins of the season, the Whitecaps took a slight tumble against the visiting Firebirds.
Some people may call this one a Harwich hangover for the Whitecaps, who fell 6-3 to the Firebirds. On a positive note, the Whitecaps will still be in first place tomorrow and multiple Whitecaps had multi-hit games. This included Porter Brown (TCU). Brown has struggled on the Cape, it was a good sign to see him playing at his potential.
“I just want to give a huge thank you to my coaches for keeping trust in me and giving me chances to show myself,” Brown Said. “I felt really good today in batting practice and I am happy that it translated into the game.”
Those were the positives of the game. There was a negative to the day, and that was the Whitecaps losing.
The Firebirds took a 5-0 lead on the Whitecaps. The same as they did in the last game. This time the Whitecaps would not come back.
The Whitecaps scratched across their first run off a wild pitch in the sixth inning. Their next run came off a Porter Brown single that scored a run.
The final run of the game for the Whitecaps came from Tony Bullard (Arizona). Bullard singled to drive home a run.
Jake Thompson (Oklahoma State), Will Simpson (Washington), Tony Bullard (Arizona), and Porter Brown (TCU) all had two hits apiece.
Brendan Girton (Texas Tech) made his second start for the Whitecaps. Pete Hansen (Texas) and Brennan Oxford (Wake Forest) came in relief.
The Whitecaps now (18-9-3) will be at Wareham tomorrow night, at 6:45 p.m.
