Matt Davis and Logan Warmoth each ripped home runs for the Whitecaps, yet they fell to the Wareham Gatemen 7-5 on Sunday afternoon at Stony Brook Field. The Whitecaps fall to 8-6 with the loss. The Whitecaps opened the scoring in the bottom half of the first as Nick Dunn ripped a double to right center field, and Brent Rooker plated a run with an RBI single to make it 1-0. They extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, as Matt Davis drove his fifth home run of the season over the left field fence. The Whitecaps were touched up for six runs in the top of the fifth inning, as Wareham took a 6-3 lead. Cole Freeman and Alex Destino drove in runs with an RBI singles to make it 3-2, yet the damage came when Colton Shaver and Gavin Sheets slammed back-to-back home runs to make it 6-3. The Caps added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Dunn singled and Warmoth ripped a double to put men at the corners. Dunn would come around to score on a wild pitch to make it 7-4. Warmoth ripped a solo home run with two outs in the bottom half of the seventh to cut Wareham’s lead to 7-5. Destino ripped an RBI double off the base of the wall in the top of the eight to give the Gatemen a 9-5 lead. The Whitecaps battled back in the bottom of the eight as Kel Johnson ripped an RBI single to make it 9-6. Matt Davis, who was hit by a pitch, came around to score from second base on a passed ball to cut the score to 9-7. The next batter, Colby Fitch ripped an RBI single to score Johnson and make the score 9-8. Brewster was unable to tally the tying run in the bottom half of the ninth inning as Wareham secured the 9-8 victory. The Whitecaps return to action on Tuesday, June 28, as they travel to Harwich to face the Mariners at 6:30 p.m. Comments are closed.
