The first three games of the Whitecaps season were not that close. They all saw someone pull away late. The Whitecaps hit the road tonight and they played their first close game of the season. They traveled off Cape to Spillane Field to take on the Wareham Gatemen, and played a tight and messy game. Brewster committed three errors and threw two wild pitches during the game, but their pitching still performed well.
Ryan Feltner (Ohio State) started the game for Brewster and only gave up one run through his first five innings. That run came in the second when Colton Burns (Cal Santa Barbara) reached on a Whitecap error and scored on a ground out by Jonathan Englemann (Michigan). Brewster recovered by turning to their hot offense. Nicholas Dunn (Maryland) drove in Kekai Rios (Hawaii) on a long double to tie the game in the fifth. Brewster then took the lead in the 6th when Ryan Noda (Cincinnati) tripled to open the inning and Zach Gahagan (North Carolina) drove him in with a single. Brewster had a chance to drive in another run, but missed the chance when Gahagan was thrown out at home to end the inning. From there, Wareham's bullpen took over. Ryan Selmar (Maryland) pitched two strong innings in relief and collected the victory. Ryan Wilson (Pepperdine) pitched the final three innings and only allowed one hit, no runs, and struck out four batters, collecting a long save. Wareham scratched out two runs in the 6th. Gavin Sheets (Wake Forest) drove in one run with a ground out to second, and Robert Metz (George Washington) scored on a wild pitch by Brewster reliever Jacob Wloczewski (Binghamton). Wislon shut down the Whitecaps the rest of the way, and the hottest offense in the Cape League was held to only two runs for the game. With the 3-2 defeat, Brewster falls to 2-2 on the season. They travel to Lowell Park in Cotuit tomorrow for a makeup game against the Kettleers. First pitch will be at 5 PM. Comments are closed.
