![]() COTUIT, Mass- Konnor Pilkington fired seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out five batters and Matt Davis smashed his league-leading seventh home run of the season as the Brewster Whitecaps defeated Cotuit 5-0 on Saturday evening. The Caps move to 11-14 with the victory. The Caps opened the scoring in the top of the first and Logan Warmoth picked up his 18th RBI of the season to bring home Nick Dunn on a fielder’s choice and give Brewster the 1-0 lead. Brewster chased the Cotuit starter, Jason Bilous in the second inning after he issued a bases-loaded walk to Bryce Jordan to make the score 2-0. Davis slapped a home run in the third to extend the Whitecaps lead to 3-0. They would add two more runs in the fourth inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Kekai Rios doubled to begin the frame and Brent Rooker brought him around with a sacrifice fly. Davis then singled to left field to plate Dunn and give the Caps the 5-0 lead, which they would never relinquish. Pilkington only got better as the game progressed, as he opened the outing sitting at 87-89 yet was sitting at 91-93 as he moved deeper into the game. The Whitecaps failed to score any runs after the fifth inning, as strong relief pitching from the Cotuit bullpen kept them off the board. With the Whitecaps leading by a secure margin, Hansen Butler worked around a couple base runners to toss a scoreless eight, while Tyler Zuber struck out a pair in the ninth to secure Brewster’s second straight win. The Whitecaps return to action when they face the Orleans Firebirds on Sunday at Stony Brook Field. Comments are closed.
