BREWSTER, Mass. Whitecaps Surge Over Chatham
June 13, 2016 The Whitecaps came from behind and exploded for a ten-run seventh as they defeated the Chatham Anglers 14-6 on Monday night at Stony Brook field. Brewster posted a strong start as Tyler Zuber struck out the side in the first, and allowed five runs through four innings and struck out six on the night. The Caps opened the scoring off a Matt Davis homer to left field in the second to give them a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Ryan Noda singled to give the Caps a 3-1 lead. They added another in the inning to make it Chatham responded in the top of the fourth, adding five runs to jump out to a 5-4 lead. They would score one more run in the top of the eighth, yet the Whitecaps offense was more than enough to propel them to their second straight victory. Brewster’s bats came alive in the bottom of the seventh, when they tallied ten runs and sent 16 men to the plate to take a 14-5 lead. Davis got the inning started with a double to deep center, and Nick Dunn’s RBI single tied the game at 5-5. The Caps worked four walks in the inning and were the beneficiaries of RBI hits from Jared Barnes, Brett Langhorne and Zach Gahagen. The contest was called due to darkness after eight complete innings, making the final a 14-6 victory for the Whitecaps. They improve to 2-1 on the year with the win. The Whitecaps return to action tomorrow, June 14, as they travel to Wareham to face the Gatemen at 6:30 p.m. Comments are closed.
