Will Toffey drove in the go-ahead run for Y-D in the top of the ninth inning to lift the YD Red Sox Whitecaps to a 5-4 victory as the Brewster Whitecaps fell on Monday afternoon in Brewster.
The Red Sox struck first, as Joey Thomas delivered an RBI single to score Matt Winaker and give them a 1-0 lead. The Caps tied it up in the bottom of the second as Bryce Jordan delivered a sac-fly to tie it up at 1-1.
Two costly errors in the top of the third allowed YD to take a 2-1 lead as Will Toffey grounded into a fielder’s choice and scored a run.
Brewster again battled back in the bottom half of the fourth as Ryan Gridley continued his strongoffensive play and ripped an RBI double to drive in Kekai Rios who led off the inning with a double.
Nick Dunn drove in Gridley in the sixth inning to give Brewster a 3-2 lead, and Zach Gahagan put Brewster on top 4-3 in the eighth inning with an RBI single to center field.
Y. D battled back in the top half of the ninth as J.J Muno reached on a single and stole second. Dillon Persinger deposited an RBI single into center to tie the contest at 4-4 and Toffey singled home the winning run from second.
The Caps struggled to score throughout the game, leaving 15 runners on base. Landon Hughes took the loss, and Brewster starter Zac Lowther lasted only four innings, allowing two runs (1ER) and six hits while striking out one.
The Caps return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they face the Harwich Mariners at 4 p.m.
