Adam Haseley smashed the go-ahead two run RBI double in the top half of the seventh inning to lift the Orleans Firebirds over the Brewster Whitecaps by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday night. The Whitecaps move to 13-18-2 with the loss.
The Whitecaps opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when Jon Littell tapped an RBI single into left field to score Kel Johnson and give the Caps a 1-0 lead.
Zach Gahagan ripped a two-run home run to the scoreboard in left field to give Brewster a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third and Julian Infante added an RBI single to left field to make it 4-1 Whitecaps.
Orleans came from behind in the top of the fifth as they added a run on a passed ball to make it 4-3 and Haseley sent a base hit into right field to tie the game at 4-4.
With the help of Haseley, they were again able to break the game open in the seventh. Ethan Paul singled to right and Brian Miller slapped a single up the middle to open the frame. Haseley then crushed an RBI triple to right center field to plate two runs and give Orleans a 6-4 lead. Riley Adams added an RBI single to left to make it 7-4.
The Caps attempted to battle back in the bottom of the seventh as Infante added a sac-fly RBI to cut the lead to 7-5, but two errors in the eight inning led to a run and Orleans made it 8-5.
Beau Jordan tallied an RBI single in the bottom half of the frame, yet the game was called due to darkness after eight innings with a final score of 8-6 in favor of the Firebirds.
The Whitecaps return to action tomorrow when they hit the road to face the Hyannis Harbor Hawks at 6:00 p.m.
