Tyler Lawrence smashed a two run home run in the top of the fifth inning to lift the Falmouth Commodores to a 6-4 victory over the Brewster Whitecaps on Saturday evening at Stony Brook Field.
The Whitecaps opted for a bullpen game, as Jacob Wloczewski made his first start of the season, allowing three runs over three innings of work.
Brewster struck first as Bryce and Beau Jordan tallied back-to-back hits and Brent Rooker brought in a run with an RBI single to left field to give the Caps a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
The Commodores would equalize in the top of the second as Ryan Chandler slapped an RBI single to make it 1-1 and Matt McLaughlin drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to give Falmouth a 2-1 lead. A.J Graffanino drove in a run with an RBI double in the bottom of the second to tie the game once again at 2-2.
Josh Watson added another run for Falmouth via the sac-fly to give them the 3-2 lead in the top of the third. Lawrence’s home run in the fifth added insurance for the Commodores.
They would need it as Brewster attempted a comeback when Graffanino delivered an RBI single in the seventh and Beau Jordan added another run with an RBI single to cut Falmouth’s lead to 6-4.
The Caps were unable to score again and the game was called due to darkness after eight innings.
